ISO 1600

Just playing with the new camera today. Haven't even gotten the flash out of the box yet, so took this at ISO 1600 with no flash. Not bad! I like it. 1600 was the max on my Olympus, and it was super grainy. The new Canon goes up to 6400 (expandable to 12,800) - such a difference!

A boring post. Only photos taken on this day were for work.

Color!

Got 2 new seamless (backdrop) colors. Haven't tried the pink yet, but here is the very first test shot with the blue. I like it. It's happy!

New toy

Just playing around during William's nap today.

I used to use a large roll of faux floor paper for sessions, but for anything besides newborns, it was kind of a disaster because of course my little subjects move and it was always getting torn and rumpled.

Got a very fun new prop - this mat is the same material as a mouse pad. Can't tear it, it's washable (!) and rolls up for storage. It's big - 5x4 feet. Liking it so far! Took this quickly with no flash on a dark day, so nothing great, but looking forward to using it for sessions soon - seems promising!

Taken Monday, 9/5 (Happy Labor Day!)

More lens love

Took the rental out for another spin this evening - just adore it, and am going to cry on Monday when I have to Fedex it back.

Happy little guy:

Oh! The bokeh and compression! Isn't it lovely? 100mm f/2, ISO 100. Can't wait to see what it can do in the huge cathedral for the wedding tomorrow.

100mm goodness

I can tell you right now that I am going to have to be FORCED to send this lens and (better) camera body that I'm renting back. I am so used to shooting at 50mm that 100 is a huge, huge change. I like how far I can be from William (or the bride and groom this weekend) and still get in close. People are more natural this way than when they have a lens up in their face.

The black & white above was one of the first 10 or so shots I took, so I was getting used to the completely different shooting experience (not only the framing, but the lens alone weighs almost 4 lbs, which may not sound like a lot, but it is! My wrists hurt already).

W had a meltdown (I don't blame him, it was 99 degrees!) so we cut playtime short, but I can't wait to take it back out tomorrow. I am seriously in heaven!

Check out Little Mister's face at the end of our 20 minutes at the park. Boys will be boys!

Summer Haze

I love playing with the light around sunset. This was taken in the garden in Jeff & Barb's side-yard. It had rained, and was gray most of the day until dinner time.

Off-camera flash

Playing with off-camera flash this morning (the flash is placed on a stand and fires remotely when I press the shutter button on the camera) - pretty fun. Can create some neat, dramatic lighting, which Georgia so happily demonstrates here. Doesn't she look thrilled?

Smooth

Took this last night (Friday 5/6) - I am still on track for taking a photo every day, but need to get better about blogging them the day of!

Was waiting for a client to arrive and was playing around with long shutter speeds. This was a 1 second exposure (for reference, I usually shoot at 1/160th to 1/250th of a second).

I like the effect and will definitely be going back, with a tripod next time.

Aw, MOM!

Played with the remote for a minute today... surprisingly the focus was not too bad. Had to use kisses to keep my little subject in the right spot!

Action shot

Playing with a slightly slower shutter speed than usual to see if I could get a mostly-crisp image with a little motion blur. Not sure what I think, but love my little soccer player in action. (He really kicks the ball!)

LOOK what I got!

My Mom gave me the COOLEST thing today. This super cool Kodak "#2 Folding Autographic Brownie" - Googled it, and they were introduced in 1915, and discontinued in 1926. So cool! Talk about shooting in manual mode! From what I can tell, it's a 25-50mm f/4. I am in love. Have to find a special place for it!

More early Easter-ness

I have several newborn sessions in April, and with Easter around the same time, I thought it might be cute to have a new prop on hand... excuse the photo. Spent more time knitting than shooting today.

A black & white

It was actually a very colorful day at a neat new park with our playgroup today, but I've been working on my B&W conversions. Happy little guy! Happy weekend, all!

Sitting pretty

My new backdrop stand arrived today. W was napping when I set it up for the first time, so Mr. Bear-Bear was my first "model."
Oh, to be a product photographer. So easy with a non-moving subject!

Tra la!

Guess who won't be taking any more pictures today, and will be installing and playing with PSE9? Hooray! Happy Friday to me.

I just want to dance!

I wore these lovely little shoes to our rehearsal dinner 3 1/2 years ago. I love them.

BUT it's not the shoes that makes me want to dance. It's my new prop. Can you spot it? The floor! Barnwood. Arrived yesterday - 12 feet of it. I had to test it out immediately!

And for those fellow nerds who are interested, here's a similar shot. Both taken seconds apart, both with my 50mm f/1.4. The first was taken with bounced flash, using my new Demb Flip-It reflector (which I love and highly recommend!). The second was in all natural light.

Which do you like better?
